Our day trip to the shores of North Berwick was refreshing & full. The morning train rolled over the Scottish countryside through the rain and mist until the sea was in view. We decided to brave the off-route path to Tantallon Castle and were rewarded with beautiful ocean views and emerald bluffs. The castle itself, ancient and crumbling, was a dream to see. Our return hike was cold and hard. We were relieved when we made it safely back to the village. A feast of seafood awaited us: mussels mariniere, half battered haddock, freshly buttered lobster, and strong beer to wash it all down. We left with a large round rock in our backpack (to Dan’s dismay and my delight) as a token of the journey.
