Germany & Austria were blanketed in green during this spring. In many ways, the grassy land & old world buildings reminded me that of Ireland {sans ocean}. Rolling storms, white mist, & muggy air clung to the countryside & crept down from the mountaintops into the village. A perfect escape from the busy city noise of Prague.
Throughout our springtime travels, two places in particular were my favorite. The first was our visit to Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen, Germany. We had been there once before with good friends, but the expansive grounds & towering authority of the estate still took my breath away as we approached. It was crowded {as always}, almost like a theme park, but did nothing to mar the sheer grandness of the castle.
The second was our trip to Salzburg, Austria - the little town in which The Sound of Music was filmed. Although the city was a bit small, it was filled with calming mountain views & riverside paths. As we biked around the village, we stopped to take pictures of various film scenes & key nostalgic moments in the movie. The rain staved off for the majority of our ride, & we sped down smooth paths in a line altogether, exhilarated by the sights & the smell of wet greenery in the wind.
